May 2011 Wine Tasting Nosh

We have been getting a lot of requests for the nosh we had with wine tasting.  Below are the recipes to recreate it at home!

Greek Dip:

Ingredients

  • 1 jar Robert Rothschild Farm Sweet & Spicy Red Pepper Hummus
  • ½ cup tomato, chopped
  • ½ cup cucumber, chopped
  • 1 cup baby spinach, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons red onion, diced
  • ¼ cup Kalamata olives, chopped
  • ½ cup feta, crumbled
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
  • Pita bread or pita chips, for serving

Instructions

  • Spread hummus on the bottom of a shallow serving dish. Top with remaining ingredients in layers. Drizzle with olive oil. Serve dip, chilled, with warm pita bread or pita chips.

Sweet Thai Chili Pizza:

Ingredients

  • 1 ball of homemade or pre-made refrigerated pizza crust
  • ¾ cup Robert Rothschild Farm Thai Sweet Chili Dipping Sauce, divided
  • 1 cup chopped (pre-cooked) chicken
  • 1 cup roasted red pepper strips
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded carrot
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons sliced scallion

Instructions

Brush the crust with 1/2 cup of the Thai Sweet Chili Dipping Sauce. Top evenly with chicken and pepper strips and finish with the mozzarella. Bake as directed. Let the pizza rest 5 minutes. Sprinkly evenly with the carrots, cilantro and cashews. Drizzle remaining sauce over the pizza. Slice and serve.

Enjoy!

To market, to market….

Well, I’m back from market again and looked at more fabulous clothing for summer and fall. Some more hot new trends – jewelry dripping with pearls, both traditional and metallic mixes, all sized. Layers of necklaces, mixing metals and colors. One of my favorite jewelry trends – huge, ornate cocktail rings with stretchy bands so they’re comfortable – jewels, goofy characters, even found some with working watches built in! And of course I can’t forget fabulous fashion handbags at great prices. Bright colors are always fun, pewter is a hot color and look for details on the bags – studs, zippers, chains and beautiful 3-D roses. Can’t wait till they come in!

Tasting New Wines!

Still working on new wines for this season and last week Scott sent up more samples to test out.  We made a huge batch of jambalaya and invited our friends over to become a part of the “tasting crew”!  We had a great mix of wine to try, here are some you might see in the Summerhill Cellar this season:

Novecento Sparkling Wine from Argentina – we started with this and it was a surprise how bone dry it was.  Kristi who is a bubble fanatic, warmed up to it after it warmed up a bit.
La Vieille Ferme Blanc – A great non-thinking white.  This went great with Jon’s bacon scallop dish and we used it to deglaze and make a great finishing sauce!
Hakutsuru Sayuri Nigori Sake – This is a sweet sake and was fun to try.  Would be great with a spicy Asian fish appetizer!  There wasn’t any middle ground, Ann lead the half that liked it and the other half said no way.
Don Rodolfo Tannat - This was the big hit of the night!  This red was liked by everyone but was the favorites of Eileen, Clarice, and Dave.  It held up well to the jambalaya with lots for bright black fruits and nice smokiness.

Those were the hightlights.  I will keep everyone posted as I try to find more great wines for the season!

Any wines people would like to see this year please share, I am always looking for new ideas.

Thanks!
Jeff

Yummy Clothing for Spring

I don’t know if it’s because winter has already been long and cold, but going to market and seeing all that beautiful, colorful clothing is so exiting! Looking at it, I can picture all the spring and summer occasions coming up and how much fun it will be to wear these new styles!

One of the new trends I love is the long, unconstructed vest/cardigan look. They come in lots of fabulous colors and prints, are great for layering with tanks or tees and can give so many good looks. Put a tank under a vest with skinny pants and get a hip, sexy look. Put a tank under a cardigan and get a hip, sexy, yet forgiving look (for those of us who want to expose selectively). Either look will pop with some long funky necklaces.

I’ve very excited to announce we’re going to be carrying Tribal this year. For those who aren’t familiar with it, they are known for great fitting pants and a good price, and just really beautiful, well made styles. Some other new lines we’re bring in are Petit Pois (gorgeous mesh solid and print tops), PBJ (colorful casual wear and sweaters), Splendor (unique summer sweaters) and Teez-her (pretty shapers at a great price).

Can’t wait to see more…..

What a sale!

Well, the official Labor Day Sale is over and the tent is down, but we have even better deals! Right now almost everything is at least 60 percent off, with the exception of fall clothing and wine. We are serving lunch for 2 more days and then we will be open only Fridays and Saturdays thru the end of the month. We’ll have all our sale merchandise in the Treehouse and have BBQ dinners from 5:30 – 8:30.
